Recently, Mrs. Horrocks’ third grade class visited Mrs. Towns’ classroom to share an exciting and innovative learning experience using The Walking Classroom devices. Mrs. Horrocks’ class first received a donated set of Walk Kits after applying through The Walking Classroom website, and since then, she has helped other teachers join in on the action.
The Walking Classroom is a unique program that blends physical activity with academics. Students walk outdoors while listening to engaging, curriculum-based podcasts, allowing them to stay active while learning at the same time. This approach not only supports physical wellness but also helps improve focus, comprehension, and overall engagement.
During their visit, Mrs. Horrocks’ students did a fantastic job demonstrating how the devices work and explaining the benefits of learning on the move. Their leadership and enthusiasm made it easy for Mrs. Towns’ class to jump right in!
After the demonstration, Mrs. Towns’ students headed outside for a beautiful walk of their own. As they explored the outdoors, they listened and learned about how exercise and healthy choices impact our bodies. It was a perfect combination of fresh air, movement, and meaningful learning.
This collaborative experience highlighted the power of student leadership and innovative teaching practices. Great job to both classes for making learning active, engaging, and fun!
