Policy Update Regarding Outside Food Deliveries
Subject: IMPORTANT: Updated Policy Regarding Outside Food and Parent Drop-offs

Dear Uniondale Community,

I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to provide a clarifying update to my previous message regarding parents dropping off food for students.

After further review of our building's safety protocols, we are discontinuing the scheduled window for parents to meet students to drop off food. While we initially aimed to provide flexibility, this practice presents several significant security concerns:

Safety & Screening: We cannot effectively verify the contents of bags brought into the building, which poses a risk to the student body.

Conflict Prevention: To maintain a focused learning environment and ensure the safety of all parties, we must limit unscheduled interactions between visitors and the student population during the school day.

Food Options for Students:
We want to ensure no student goes hungry. We ask that parents utilize the following options:

School Dining: We offer a variety of nutritious meal options available for purchase daily within the building.

Packed Lunches: Students are encouraged to bring a lunch from home in the morning to eat during their designated lunch period.

Thank you for your cooperation and for partnering with us to keep Uniondale High School a safe and secure environment for every student.

Sincerely,

Dr. Shawn F. Brown

Dear Uniondale Families and Staff,

I hope this message finds you well. As we continue to prioritize the safety and smooth operation of our school day for our nearly 2,000 students, I am writing to clarify our procedures regarding parent food deliveries at the Goodrich (Main) Entrance.

To maintain a secure environment and ensure our safety agents and staff remain focused on their primary duties, we are moving to a direct-to-student delivery model.

The New Policy
No Staff Involvement: Security and staff are not responsible for contacting students, holding food, searching for student schedules, or calling students down for deliveries.

Direct Coordination: Parents and students must coordinate their own meeting time and location at the Main Desk.

Building Access: For the safety of our scholars, we cannot have staff ushering parents through the building for drop-offs.

Example: A Successful Hand-off (The "Michael & Mom" Model)
To see how this works in practice, consider this example:

The Night Before: Michael tells his mom his lunch begins at 12:30 p.m.

The Plan: Mom agrees to meet Michael at the Main Desk by the Goodrich entrance at 12:35 p.m.

The Arrival: Michael walks down to the desk at the start of his lunch. Mom arrives at the same time.

The Result: The food is handed over directly. No safety agents or office staff were interrupted to page Michael or find his classroom.

With a student body of our size, even a few unscheduled deliveries can create significant security gaps. By following this simple "no-contact" coordination, you help us keep our hallways clear and our security team focused on protecting our scholars.

Thank you for your continued cooperation and for helping us keep Uniondale High School safe and focused on learning.

Thank you,

Important Safety Update Regarding Potential Student Walkout
Dear Uniondale High School Community,

As many of you are aware, there is a planned student walkout this Friday to protest current immigration enforcement policies. Our administrative team has engaged in dialogue with student leaders and held a virtual meeting with parents to discuss these developments.

While we recognize our students' desire to voice their opinions on significant social issues, my primary concern is—and will always be—the safety and well-being of every child in our care.

Regarding Student Safety and Campus Boundaries: Uniondale High School is a closed campus. We cannot ensure the safety of any student once they leave school grounds. While we are collaborating with the Nassau County Police Department and our safety agents to monitor the school's perimeter, our ability to provide a secure environment is limited to our campus property.

For further clarity, please note the following:

Official Stance: The district does not advocate for students to leave their classrooms, the building, or the campus during instructional time.

Jurisdiction: The school district does not have the authority or the ability to impede the work of any government or federal agency.

Consequences of Leaving: I want to be very clear: the school cannot provide or guarantee student safety once a student exits the campus gates. Students who leave the property may also forfeit their ability to participate in after-school extracurriculars and athletics for that day.

We encourage our students to engage in civic discourse in a safe, respectful manner that respects school operations. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me directly.

Dear Parents,

Thank you to everyone following our electronics policy! It is working: Our school has been named an AP Honor School, and Regents scores are up.

However, we still have students sneaking in phones, smart watches, and Meta glasses. When administration has to police phones, we lose time focusing on your child’s education. Please do not ask us to break the rules for your child—it undermines their success.

Policy Reminder:

1st Offense: Student gets the device back at 3:30 PM.

2nd Offense: Parent must pick up the device.

3rd Offense: The student is banned from bringing the device to school.

We are doing this to help your child focus, graduate with honors, and win scholarships. We appreciate your partnership!

Subject: Important Update: Ensuring a Healthy Environment at Uniondale High School

Dear Uniondale High School Families,

I hope this message finds you well as we approach the winter break.

I am writing to share an important update regarding our school building. Recently, we have noticed an increase in rodent activity within some regions of the high school. We understand that this is concerning news, and I want to assure you that the health, safety, and comfort of our students and staff remain our highest priorities.

Our facilities team has identified two primary factors contributing to this issue: the recent drop in outdoor temperatures and the ongoing construction projects around our campus. As temperatures drop and the ground is disturbed during construction, pests often seek warmth and shelter indoors.

Please be assured that we are taking swift and comprehensive action to address this:

Professional Treatment: The building has already been treated by a licensed extermination service.

Deep Cleaning: We have scheduled additional intensive deep-cleaning sessions throughout the building during the upcoming winter break.

Ongoing Coordination: We are in constant communication with the district’s Buildings and Grounds department to monitor the situation, seal entry points, and ensure our mitigation efforts are practical.

We are committed to maintaining the high standards of cleanliness that our students deserve. We will continue to work diligently to ensure that, when our scholars return in the new year, they find a clean, safe, and ready environment for learning.

Thank you for your continued trust, patience, and partnership. I wish you and your loved ones a restful and happy holiday season.

Warm regards,

Dr. Shawn F. Brown Principal

Dear Uniondale Community,

Please ignore the recent fake email that falsely claims the school will be closed.

The school will be open and operating on a normal schedule.

We understand this may have confused you. Always verify official school information through our standard channels (e.g., the school website or official social media).
